The Maintenance of Natural Sports Turf Surfaces for Rugby and Football is a Lantra accredited training course delivered by instructors with significant professional grounds management experience, from parks pitches to Premier League. With an emphasis on health and safety throughout, it provides an overview of the processes, machinery and equipment required to produce and maintain high quality playing surfaces for winter sports. By developing your knowledge and skills and applying them in your working practices, you’ll be ready to address any issues that arise and you’ll enhance the playing experience for all those who use your facility.
This is a theory-based course: no practical work takes place on the day, but time is spent out on the pitch taking a closer look at the machinery and equipment, discussing its condition and maintenance, and any particular challenges based on a core soil sample taken at the time. You’ll receive general information as well as advice and guidance specific to your own particular venue.
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
• Understand the role of the groundsperson in sport
• Have a basic understanding of the Health & Safety relevant to the industry in conjunction with industry best practices

• Develop a basic knowledge of the materials used for the maintenance and renovation of sports pitches
• Develop an understanding of the machinery and equipment used on these surfaces and the role they play in the maintenance and/or renovation process
