Lantra Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of Pesticides/City & Guilds NPTC Level 2 Principles of Safe Handling and Application of Pesticides
This is a recognised qualification that reflects the national standards for the type of role you perform.
The Safe Use of Pesticides qualification (PA1) must be successfully completed before the Hand Held Equipment assessment or any other additional Safe Application modules are undertaken.
Safe Use is a paper-based, multiple choice type assessment, while Safe Application modules have a practical assessment. Please note that being able to interpret the labeling on pesticides is essential. Therefore, to undertake this course it is important to have a good level of written and spoken English. You must also be able to read and understand the questions for the theory part of the assessment.
The Safe Use (PA1) course and the application module, such as PA6, are usually taken on successive days. The time taken to complete the course is dependent upon the number of candidates, the candidates’ experience, and the type of application equipment. By the end of the course, learners will be able to:
- Understand their duties under the law and help them become a safe and competent
pesticide user - Understand what pesticides are and their ‘field of use’
- State legislation relevant to pesticide application
- Interpret and use label information
- Take the appropriate action to protect themselves and the environment
- Store and transport pesticides safely
- Dispose of pesticides and containers safely
- Record information
Safe Use of Pesticides (PA1) is then followed with one or more of the following;
- Level 2 Award in the Safe Application of Pesticides using Hand Held Equipment to land (PA6A). We additionally offer the Around Water module (PA6AW).
- Level 2 Award in the Safe Application of Pesticide Using Vehicle-Mounted Boom Sprayer Equipment (PA2) We also offer PA2AR for application to roads.
- Level 2 Award in the Safe Operation of Hand Held Stem Injection Equipment (PA6INJ)
- Level 2 Award in the Safe Operation of Pesticide Plug Equipment (PA6PP)
- Level 2 Award in the Safe Application of Pesticides using Granular Equipment (PA4S or PA4G)
