This one-day Bowling Green Maintenance course for flat and crown bowling greens was developed by Grounds Training and is accredited by UK Rural Skills. Designed specifically for volunteer and part-time greenkeepers, it enables participants to understand the basic needs of a bowling green surface throughout a 12 month period.

This is a theory course which gives an overview of all the processes, machinery and equipment required to produce and maintain a quality playing surface, always with an emphasis on Health and Safety. No practical work takes place on the day, but time is spent out on the bowls green discussing its condition and any particular challenges based on a core soil sample taken at the time. The course leads participants through pre-season preparations, e.g. surface assessment; operations, e.g. mowing, scarification, aeration; on the day work in preparation for play, e.g. marking out rinks; end of season renovations and winter maintenance.

All attendees receive a free comprehensive course manual.
