Grounds Training was established 10 years ago to provide a complete and unique service delivering training courses for the sports turf industry. In addition to open courses for individuals, we are also able to offer on-site, bespoke training for groups of 4 or more. As well as organising and delivering our portfolio of Pitchcare-designed turf maintenance and customised courses, Grounds Training also works with the industry’s awarding bodies – Lantra and NPTC – to deliver a range of courses including Safe Use of Pesticides, Machinery and Turf Management courses.
Newly Qualified Instructor Available For Lantra Mower Courses
We are pleased to announce that our Instructor, Martin Sampson, is now registered with Lantra Awards to deliver all their Pedestrian and Ride-on Mower training courses.
All our courses are available for delivery on site to groups of 3 or more, and open courses for individuals to join can be found on our courses page!
Winter Sports Pitch Maintenance (Rugby & Football)
Being new to the industry the day was full of very useful information, advice and support!

Our aim has always been to support and work with our clients, and in line with this philosophy a suite of Online Training which mirrors the theory of our original, attendance based, turf culture courses has been launched. Accredited by Lantra Awards and led by the experienced consultant Alan Lewis MSc NDT FinstG, the online courses provides cost-effective, flexible and portable training that can take place at any time and in most environments.
Soil Science and Turf Management Principles
“Very interesting, mainly due to the Trainer’s extensive knowledge around the subject!”
Lytes Carey National Trust
was established in 2006 in response to demand from the Turf Industry for coordinated, professional training. Since then we have gained recognition as the go-to provider for individuals and groups, and our main focus is training for groups of 4 or more, onsite at clients’ premises. We particularly appreciate the excellent relationship we have built up with our regular clients and we are passionate about encouraging groundsmen, greenkeepers and those employed in general ground care to work safely and efficiently. We are a division of the Maxwell Amenity Group based at Telford, Shropshire, which also incorporates Pitchcare.
Our Head Office team comprises Chris Johnson, Training Development Manager; Lynsey Gale, Training Manager and Carol Smith, Training Administrator – all led and supported by John Richards, Maxwell Amenity’s Operations Director.
We maintain a database of Lantra Awards registered instructors whom we can call on to deliver courses to our members.
In addition we would like to hear from any instructors with turfcare industry experience who would be interested in delivering the Pitchcare General Sports Turf Maintenance courses in winter and/or summer sports, particularly if you also have a recognised teaching or instructional techniques qualification and a good knowledge of health and safety.
E-mail your details and a brief outline of your instructing and industry experience to firstname.lastname@example.org.
We have always been aware of the challenge for groundsmen and women to try and fit in vital training within their weather-dependent and seasonal work patterns, which makes it difficult for them to commit in advance to attendance based courses. Our aim has always been to support and work with our clients, and in line with this philosophy a suite of Online Training which mirrors the theory of our original, attendance based, turf culture courses has been launched.
Accredited by Lantra Awards and led by the experienced consultant Alan Lewis MSc NDT FinstG, the online courses provides flexible, portable training that can take place at any time and in most environments.
